Brenda Anders is currently involved with many marketing projects both print & electronic for Des Moines Parks & Recreation and non-profit organizations, works for Senior Services Shuttle program as an Outreach Coordinator and is a CPR and First Aid Instructor for the American Red Cross. Brenda has been recognized as an “Outstanding Volunteer” in the Des Moines community and over the past 15 years has worked with local PTSA’s/schools, City of Des Moines Human Services Committee, Des Moines Junior Football & Cheer, Job’s Daughters Bethel #75, Waterland Festival, Bayside Brunch, Des Moines Legacy Foundation and currently Destination Des Moines. Brenda has also received a National Presidential Service Award which recognizes volunteers who give more than 500 hours to their community annually.
Brenda is the granddaughter of Warren Bonus, proprietor of the Dugout Tavern “Husky Headquarters” (1940’s-1980’s) and former Des Moines Chamber of Commerce Vice President (1950’s). She attended Des Moines Elementary School during 1st & 2nd grade before moving to Renton where she attended Kennydale Elementary, St. Anthony’s, graduated from Renton High School and Renton Technical College. Brenda currently resides in Kent, Washington, 4 houses out of Des Moines. However, she considers Des Moines her home town. In July of 2010 she was elected Vice President of Destination Des Moines. Brenda has served on the Board of Directors for the Des Moines Legacy Foundation, Des Moines Human Services Committee and many youth/school organizations. She was the Waterland Festival Director in 2004.
As Vice President of Destination Des Moines, Brenda hopes to help make the City of Des Moines a Destination by helping to improve current events, bringing in new events, and bringing back past events. She plans on using her broad knowledge of our community, event planning expertise and vast network of constituents to help build community spirit and cohesiveness. She also hopes to enhance communication between non-profits, schools, City of Des Moines, businesses and residents.
